Chouinard Vineyards is petite gem of a vineyard set in the folds of Palomares Canyon at the foot of the Walpert Ridge just east of San Francisco Bay. With its terraced vineyards, wooded hillsides and an restored old barn, Chouinard is one of the most picturesque urban wineries in the East Bay area. It is located between 3 major cities, San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose-- but the minute you arrive, you feel you are back to a gentler, less hurried time. The lush setting and lovely gardens invite picknicking, concerts and outdoor movies. The wine tasting in their tasting room echoes the old California traditions of hospitality.

Operated by three generations of Chouinards, the winery offers 18 premium wines. The winemaker, Damian Chouinard, specializes in the production of small lots of wines with an emphasis on unique styles. Ever tasted a Petite Sirah Rose? Granny Smith Apple Wine? Or an Alicante Bouschet? Celebrating its 30 year anniversary, this tiny winery boasts a collection of 18 Best of Show awards including the best wine at Cal Expo. Ninety percent of their wine sales are on site.Open 12 to 5 on Saturdays, Sundays and most holidays.
