MARKHAM VINEYARDS Vineyard 2812 St. Helena Hwy. N., St. Helena CA 94574
Markham Vineyards is proud to be one of the first four wineries founded in the Napa Valley, as well as one of the few continuously operating wineries in the area. Bordeaux immigrant Jean Laurent built the heart of the present day winery, the stone cellar, from rough-hewn stone painstakingly transported from Glass Mountain Quarry in 1879. In 1978, Bruce Markham purchased the Laurent winery, as well as vineyards in Yountville, Oak Knoll and Calistoga – and Markham Vineyards was formed to continue the long winemaking tradition in the historic Laurent cellar. Markham's claim to fame has been consistently delicious Merlot but the winery also offers a wide range of Estate Cabernet Sauvignon wines and limited production wines which are available only at the winery. Stop by the Markham Vineyards Visitor Center for a wine tasting, no appointment necessary, or book a tour in advance to get a behind-the-scenes look at winemaking in progress. No visit to Markham Vineyards is complete without viewing the latest rock 'n' roll exhibit by Rolling Stone Magazine's first chief photographer, Baron Wolman, in the art gallery. Markham is a fantastic venue for celebrating special occasions and specializes in pairing award-winning wines with culinary treats from the Napa valley's most celebrated chefs. The historic stone cellar, outdoor patio and water gardens can accommodate casual luncheons, rehearsal dinners, brunches, lobster feeds or large corporate events for up to 250 guests.
